"Williams & Co. provided more than just experience in the office..."
During my time at Marquette University, professors, and professionals alike, constantly stressed the importance of internships. After my experience as an intern at Williams & Co. this past summer, I, too, fully agree that the opportunity should be capitalized on. I had the chance to intern in the Spencer office and was able to do work on both the audit and tax sides. One of the most impressive components of my internship was that anyone in the office was willing to halt whatever he was busy with in order to answer a question I had, no matter how basic it turned out to be. As the summer progressed, my familiarity with the computer programs and understanding of the work I was doing developed into an appreciation of where my piece was fitting into the puzzle, whether as an engagement letter for an audit or a year-end compilation and 1040 for a business.
Williams & Co. provided more than just experience in the office, however. I also got a chance to meet all the employees of the firm at a team-building event in June. In addition, I was able to do fieldwork at two different locations and go on my first team audit. Now as I am enrolled in auditing this fall, I am appreciating even more the full breadth of my audit experience and the ethical emphasis of my co-workers. The terms and principles that Williams & Co. introduced me to are truly an integral part of the accounting profession. As I finish up my undergraduate education this year, I am excited to approach my classes with the confidence that accounting is the route I want to take and know I have a solid foundation to continue building my experiences on.
